Privacy Policy

privacy policy

CPA's, like all providers of personal professional financial services, are now required by law to inform their clients of their policies regarding privacy of client information. We have been and continue to be bound by State of Maine statute, the Internal Revenue Code, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to maintain professional standards of confidentiality which are much more stringent than those required by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

Our code of ethics prohibits anyone in our office from disclosing any information obtained in the course of providing services to a client, except as required by law. It is our policy to share no information with any 3rd party, unless specifically authorized by the client and required in order to provide the services requested by the client (for example, e-filing a tax return). We do not even name clients as professional references without their express permission.

If we were to disregard our obligation, we could face sanctions up to and including the loss of our certificates to practice as Certified Public Accountants.

As required by law, we participate in a Peer Review program for the compilation of financial statements. Selected client information must be disclosed to the reviewing organization to ensure that our work meets professional requirements. The reviewing firms are bound by confidentiality rules from further disclosure of client information. Clients are randomly selected and may not opt out of this process.
